DAY 15/160

Dear Baby Milline,

Last night I spent the evening/night without your mother for the first time in a very long time. You see I slept at my mothers house to prepare for my trip to Valdosta in the morning. I got a decent nights rest, but I will say sleeping next to your mother brings me comfort.

This morning as I was headed out after the storm had passed through I was redirected by my manager to head to Athens instead of Valdosta. I was somewhat happy I was redirected as it's a 3.5 hour drive to Valdosta from the city, and Athens is only an hour. However, the amount of devestation that hit Athens was amazing.  Street lights were out all over the city and gas stations were packed as many people did not know when they would have their power restored. I had to drive a company vehicle out there that was considered a 4x4 but as you can see I had to questions my companies views on choice of vehicles.  Deer lined the highways heading out there as their habitats were also destroyed by the storm.

I spent the day in Athens assisting with the restoration efforts of both Georgia Power and the states EMC's. A lot of friends on social media were upset they were without power for such an extended period of time, but safety when it comes to power restoration is important and many don't realize that to set 1 power pole could take as long as 4 hours. So imagine how quickly many had to work in order to get mosts power restored in a few hours or even a few days.

The people at Georgia Power were good to me though, offering me food to eat, a place to rest and a variety of coffee.  I wasn't able to capture many photos as I had a lot of work to do as the liaison between GPC and GTC. It was a new experience for me, and though I was scared it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. The men and women there really were prepared for what the storm brought.

I decided to not spend the night in Athens today, especially once I realized your mother returned home. I was happy to spend the night with her again.  Baby Milline just so you know if I feel I can make it home to you or your mother, regardless of how tired I may be, I'm coming home.

Well that's all for tonight as I have to return to Athens in the morning. Hopefully the day goes just as well as today.

I love you,

Your Father.
